Burry Port 43 Penybanc 12

Banc made the trip to Burry Port on Saturday hoping to pick up where they left off in the second half of last week’s game in Llandeilo. Conditions were horrendous after a morning of heavy rain but with the surface playable, the game kicked off. The home side started the stronger but it was obvious from the first few minutes that the weather would dictate. Port continued to put the Banc defence under pressure and soon went over for the first try. Banc had a limited amount of possession for the next period, but after finally getting some ball were able to put some nice phases  together.  After keeping possession well, lock John James, playing on permit from Tycroes RFC, was able to barge his way over after great work from James Harris. Banc came close again shortly after but good home tackling snuffed out the chance. The home side, led well by their No 8, carved out 2 further chances before half time and were able to cross twice for a score of 17-5 at the break.

The second half started well for the homesters once again, taking the wind out of Banc sails with 2 quick tries. With the bonus point in the bag, they rung the changes and brought on fresh legs. With conditions worsening, Banc managed to get on the front foot and after a series of line outs almost scored through prop Shaun James. The ref deemed a knock on though. Banc kept up the pressure and had further try disallowed shortly after before James grabbed a deserved second. Burry Port ended the game as a contest mid-way through the second half with a further score but Banc continued to put in a stern defensive shift. Both sides had further chances but it was BP who scored the last try with a couple of minutes to go. Banc, despite missing the bulk of their squad, played their part in an entertaining game and never gave up  but in all fairness, the home side who have been consistently good for the past few seasons, played the conditions better and took their chances well, running out deserved winners. Banc thankfully welcome back some boys this week as we host Penygroes RFC.
